How to get your hard headed woman to quit smoking while pregnant?
Me and my gurlfriend are expecting to have a baby in November. It’s great and all, but I have a problem. The thing is my gurlfriend continues to smoke six to eight of them a day, even after we agreed she must butt out, that was two weeks ago. Still to this day she puffs on them like she’s not pregnant. I am just wondering what it is I can do or say that will make her think long and hard, and ultimately butt out for good, or until after baby is born. I am getting frustrated with her. I am starting to believe she doesn’t care about it or doesn’t want the child to come out 100%. I want a perfect healthy baby with no defects. What can I do or say?

Do some research about smoking while pregnant. See if you can find some not so nice pictures of babies and show them to her, put them near her cig. pack etc. You can always call her doctor and tell him your concerns. Maybe he will be able to convince her to stop. After all, it is your baby too!

You can’t make her quit. She obviously cares more about herself than the baby.
Smokers suck.

Smoking is an addiction. The best thing for her to do is seek medical help. It is very hard to quit cold turkey.

it is hard to just up and stop smoking iam sure it’s not because she doesn’t care about the baby and if she was a heavy smoker before she got pregnant it sounds like she has cut back a lot the more you pressure her and get on her and make her feel like crap the more she will probably smoke why don’t you try honey i notice you didn’t smoke as much tonight and iam proud of you positive attention always goes further than negative be her support good luck

Just keep on what you are doing. Really, there is nothing you can do, she has to WANT to. Also, please dont think that she doesnt care about the baby, this is a horrible addiction and its not so easy to just “butt out” as people would like to think, some can do it easily, others stuggle with it for thier whole lifetime.

My nurse just gave me an info. sheet that says that women who smoke during pregnancy are twice as likely to have a premature baby.
If I were you, I’d tell her that if something happens to the baby then I would always blame her. Guilt her into quitting.

I know this is horrible for me to admit but I am also guilty of smoking while pregnant:( I hate the fact but it’s true. I currently have 2 boys with whom I smoked with and am currently 7 weeks pregnant. The only thing I can tell you and her is every time she lights a cigarette think of the baby inhaling this too.I feel so guilty whenever I smoke but it is soooo hard to quit. Every time I light one and I think of how healthy I want my baby to be I put it out right away. I don’t want to be the cause for my baby being unhealthy or me miscarrying. You also have to keep in mind that it is very very hard to quit. My prayers go out to both of you and your baby. Also keep in mind that A lot of times babies do turn out healthy when a mom smokes. They may have a lot of ear or upper respiratory problems though and NO I am not saying that it is okay to do. Good luck and I wish you the best.

take her smokes and crush them all. every time she pulls one out break it or if you see her with a pack throw it on the ground and stomp on it. tell her that you will not sit back and let her harm your unborn child.

Smoking contributes to a lot of illness including cancer, respiratory diseases and cardio vascular diseases. The harmful effects of smoking do not end with smokers; second hand smoke also affects non smokers and caused deaths due to lung cancer and heart diseases.Smoking is a strong habit that is hard to stop but it can be stopped and you have to find the best effective way to quit smoking before your health starts to deteriorate.
There are numerous ways to quit smoking available today, but how can you find the best one?Now I will show you some common ways to quit Smoking:
1 One way to stop smoking is through Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). While this is not the best effective way to stop smoking and this is for short time use, about 20-40% of smokers find success on this method. This therapy includes wearing patches, chewing nicotine-containing gums and nicotine nasal spray or inhaler. This method reduced the physical symptoms of withdrawal from smoking like irritability and tiredness.
2 Cold turkey is another way to stop smoking. This is the most popular method though not the best effective way to stop smoking. This contributes to only 5% of success per try. Cold turkey means to stop smoking immediately and without preparation. Smokers have to try this over and over again to succeed.
3 The Gum is good for many smokers because it gives you something to do with your mouth while kicking the smoking habit. With most nicotine gum, you chew the gum a few times and store it between the lip/cheek and gum. The nicotine is then released through your gums and cheek. This is a great way to quit smoking because you satisfy the chemical and some of the mental dependency of smoking.
