What Is The Best Way To Quit Smoking?

I want to quit smoking for my New Year’s resolution. I was wondering what worked the best for those of you that used to smoke. Anything that you would recommend that I do to keep myself from thinking about smoking? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The best method to quitting I know is located at http://stopsmoking.eu.pn/
Take a look there, is free and is (for people who really wants to quit) a great site.

I think the best way to quit smoking is to quit the tobacco… but keep the nicotine.
Let me explain.
Opposed to what many believe… Nicotine is NOT bad for you. Its all the crap in tobacco and the other chemicals they put in cigarettes that are bad for you. Nicotine is not the problem with smoking… however, it is the addictive part.
So… you need to keep the nicotine and quit the tobacco.
Now, there are several ways to do this… like using the nicotine gum, or the nicotine patch. However, neither of these gives you the nicotine in the fast an instant way that you body is accustomed to.
Try Healthy Cigarettes… these are a safe way to get nicotine into your body without all the chemicals and additives.. without any carcinogenics whatsoever.
Its helped me. Hope it helps many of you out there.

In my personal experience the best way to quit is simply to go cold turkey. Yes it sucks, especially the first three days, but after wards it gets a lot easier as nicotine leaves your body. You’ll find that after three weeks you will no longer have “panic attacks”. By taking pills/patches your still receiving nicotine in your body, most likely in a far less amount than you got from smoking. As you begin to reduce the amount of nicotine you use, the urge of smoking increases as you’ll find you still want and crave nicotine in any shape or form. It has been shown that 80-90% of long term quitters (12 months or longer) quit by going cold turkey. So tough it out for three days and then take slow carefully thought steps the next month and you should be ok.

Being a smoker for the last (past tense) 30 years, I have tried the patches, pills, mints, gums and cold turkey. I was besieged with headaches, sour stomachs, shakes, and total loss of concentration (not to mention I made everyone around me miserable). Nothing worked. There are those that say it’s just a habit, but I disagree. For me it was the enjoyment, the relaxation and yes – the addition to nicotine. So I purchased a kit at http://www.stopsmokingwithecigarettes.com. The e-cigarette let me keep my hands busy, allow me to be calm and receive NONE of the harmful affects that a regular cigarette has (watch the cartridge mg – high means high). In 2 weeks I have gone from a 1+ pack of cigarettes per day to 1 (yes one single) real cigarette per day. I will be completely cigarette free within 7 days without any withdrawl affects. I remain alive and with a smile on my face. I can not recommend it enough!

I’m patched, patched right now in fact. Day three and I haven’t cheated at all.
For me I had to finally come to accept that smoking is not my buddy, I always felt like it was my bud that I could be with when nothing else was here, at my lowest points or when I was to crabby to be around people but it wasn’t my friend, it was the silent one that was steady working away inside me, trying the take me away from my kid before I was ready to leave him.
I had a really bad cold a few weeks ago, I could hardly breath, I couldn’t walk far cos I couldn’t breath, I couldn’t play with my son, or walk the dogs or even have the dogs to close around me as they jumped all over me and got me out of breath (um, I’m asthmatic too…) and I thought you know, this is what lung cancer is like, except it hurts a lot more. It’s not about having a cough, it’s about having the whole rest of your life taken away while you sit and watch.
So now when I eye someones cigarette, I think about how I felt when I was ill and how little fun it was for me and for my son and my animals and I don’t want to go like that.
I have been a smoker since 1981. Quit a few times, always went back but at 39 I am running out of time to fail, I have to do this now. I can stay patched for the rest of my life, that doesn’t worry me. As long as the smoke is gone. I’ll deal with my patch addiction later.

The electronic cigarette is the way to go. I have tried the patch, cold turkey and the gum and each time was miserable. Once the nicotine left my body, I was craving the action. I love smoking…. what can I say!
Try it! You will find that your real smokes begin to taste nasty. The convenience of being able to “smoke” in the car, at your desk, on the toilet… wherever you enjoy a “smoke”.
It is not a proven quit smoking method… just an alternative. The hardest part of quitting is being freaked out by the “quitting”. Try “changing” your habit. You will find it is far better on you mentally.

I quit smoking over a year ago and find that the right mind set is needed to achieve your goals. For me it was the reality that my younger brother was diagnosed with cancer. Cold turkey is not always the way to go either…you need motivation. You can do this without using pills or patches. Good luck and if you need help or want to know more about my experience you can go to my blog at http://www.amethodtoquitsmoking.blogspot.com

The cost of cigarettes should be enough to stop. How about black lung disease.
Stop buying cigarettes.

If you are open to it try hypnosis. The mind is a powerful thing. Too bad not too many people are willing to accept that.

I quit smoking as of 11:59pm 12/31/2008. You better believe I was smoking as the ball dropped, but as soon as it officially became 2009 that was it. Here are the steps I’ve taken:
-I threw out ALL of the cigarettes, ashtrays, and lighters.
-I washed all of my clothes, coats, hats and gloves with extra good smelling fabric softener I bought just for the cause.
-I detailed my car and bought a new air freshener.
The hardest part (for me) is letting go of the habit of sneaking away to relax and indulge in something for myself for five minutes. I’m trying to discover new, healthier “simple pleasures”.
Whenever the thought of smoking pops up into my mind (about fifty times a day) I just focus on how much I want to experience being a non-smoker and it usually fades away.
Also when a craving pops up, grab your favorite beverage. A peppermint mocha makes me forget about smoking in just a few sips. :D
Best of luck to you on this very difficult task!!!

Cut your hands off. Or go back in time and never start. Good Luck.
