Will I Gain Weight If I Stop Smoking?

I think when people want to quit smoking, gaining extra weight is a main concern they have. Most smokers (when hungry) would go out for a cigarette instead of food. Many people who have given up cigarettes have compensated the habit for another, for example, eating. The best answer to this question is, it depends on you.

If you can compensate smoking for something else like exercise, shopping or something other than eating, then you should be able to not smoke and keep the weight gain at bay. However, there are many people who do not realizes that smoking has an effect on their Metabolism.

Nicotine creates a rush of adrenalin which causes the liver to release Gylcogen (which is sugar) into your system. This activates the metabolic cycle in your body. When you deprive your body of this nicotine your metabolism slows down as it no longer has the nicotine to keep the cycle working. Therefore your body is not burning as much fat as it use to when you were smoking.

It is also true that nicotine effects the same part of the brain that sends the body messages, the messages that say the body is not hungry. So for a short time after having a cigarette your body does not feel hungry or the need to eat.

This is very unhealthy and most long time smokers become flabby and bony looking anyway (which is not a good look) then you end up looking way worse for wear. If you want wrinkles, cancers and all types of diseases then keep smoking.
